The Laboratory of Structural Biology and Bioinformatics part of the Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It is located in in the historical building of the Empire Castle in Nové Hrady in the South Bohemia, about 170 km south of the Prague.
The laboratory conducts research in the field of structural and systems biology at the level of molecules, cells, tissues and the whole organism. The research combines various methods from computational and spectroscopic, through molecular biological, biochemical with protein crystallization. The laboratory focuses on the biology of molecular systems, the relationship between protein structure and function, dynamic changes related to functional processes at the protein level, the interaction of cofactors and subunits in protein complexes and the study of ion channels and cation transport through the cell membranes. The research approach is based on a combination of theoretical and experimental methods. The researchers of the laboratory have already established collaborations with many laboratories around the world. Sufficient own accommodation capacity allows many students and colleagues from abroad to visit the facility in order to perform research.
In the castle there is also a conference centre with large accommodation capacity that can host the conferences, meetings, training sessions, seminars, congresses, workshops and other corporate events.
