On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, the presentation of diplomas with the title “Doctor of Science” took place in the premises of the Library of the ASCR. The award has been given by the ASCR since 2003 to scientific personalities as an expression of their particularly high scientific qualification proven by the creation of serious, scientifically original works important for the development of research in a certain scientific field and characterizing a distinguished scientific personality. The title has so far been awarded to 181 personalities, including nine scientists who received it that day.

Tomáš Cajthaml’s dissertation deals with the issue of removing organic pollutants from the environment with the help of ligninolytic fungi. The use of wood-destroying ligninolytic fungi for the natural degradation of organic pollutants can lead to targeted decontamination of the environment. The dissertation brings a number of new and valuable scientific findings with a significant international response.
